Cold Day at the Zoo

Call us adventurous, call us silly, call us whatever you want... but my little baby loves animals.

Today, we spent the better part of the afternoon at Brookfield Zoo. It was about 25 degrees outside, but it was fun. (By the way, most of the zoo can be seen indoors, if you weren't a zoo afficianado.) We visited the elephants and rhinos, saw the aardvarks and giraffes, and of course stopped by the polar bears (one of the 5 animals found outdoors this time of year). Sophia had so much fun. We are working on animal colors now that she knows all of the names. Funny thing is though, most animals are brown. We did find some other colors... tigers = orange, some birds are red & pink, porcupines are black... but most are brown (or gray). I think next time we are going to bring line drawings of some of the animals and crayons so that she can color them as we see them (it will most definitely have to be a warmer day though).

In other news, watch for Sophia at the Olympics in the next 12 years. She will be the one flipping and jumping off of the high bar. She is a little gymnast pro. Okay, some of this is just a mom talking, but she is pretty amazing (another mom even said so in the class). She figured out how to flip herself over on the rings a few weeks ago! Usually they just swing back and forth on the rings, but Sophie took her strong little arm muscles, pulled herself up and bam! flipped right over. I am just saying... watch out.

Well... that is about it for our lazy Saturday. I think we are going to go and take a little nap before bed (or maybe just head off to bed).
